The Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed the “Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center (ECRC)” project extension document in a ceremony held at the IMC premises
ECRC works to promote Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) culture and standards among the private sector and support Inclusive Business principles. The empowerment of businesses is done through providing CSR services including capacity building, advocacy, consultations, knowledge management and certification
The project will provide service and knowledge in various areas including CSR, Corporate Governance; Base of Pyramid (BOP) Business Model; and Social Entrepreneurship. This will help the private sector in attaining a path to responsible conduct and sustainable development.
Through the project’s previous phase, ECRC worked on the “Social Entrepreneurship Programme” in which it developed an effective programme on the development of Egypt’s local talents featured in the “Creative Egypt” event which was held at the Furnex exhibition in Egypt and turned to be the Home for Local Talents
In collaboration with the American University in Cairo (AUC) and International Finance Cooperation (IFC), ECRC worked on the “Women on Boards” initiative to improve the gender balance of corporate boards in Egypt through multiple interventions
The project extension document has been signed by Chairman of the IMC Mr. Ahmed Taha, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation for Development Ambassador Sherif Refaat, and UNDP Resident Representative a.i. Mr. El-Mostafa Benlamlih
The Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center was established in 2008 as a joint project between UNDP and the government of Egypt in follow up to the First International CSR Summit organized by UNDP and American Chamber of Commerce in December 2007 which also witnessed the launch of the first Business Solutions for HD Report that mapped the CSR context in Egypt and the gaps in promoting CSR. The Center’s mandate was to fill such gaps, encourage sustainable business practices, serve as a knowledge hub for CSR in Egypt & a platform of engagement between the public and private sector and finally to become a place to go for capacity building in the areas of CSR and corporate governance
